Eva Cassidy's latest compilation CD,Wonderful World, includes the song "Penny To My Name" written by Roger Henderson. Cassidy originally recorded "Penny To My Name for her CD, Time After Time which sold nearly a million copies worldwide.

A Brief History...

Roger Henderson is a professional singer and songwriter who has been performing for over 25 years in the Washington, DC area as well as other parts of the United States.

Roger studied under the world famous guitarist and teacher Sophocles Pappas. Pappas studied with the legendary classical guitarist, Andres Segovia and he also taught famous guitarists, Les Paul, Charlie Byrd and many others.

In high school Roger won a classical guitar scholarship in a string instrument division that previously had been reserved for orchestral string instruments. As a youth, Roger sang opera with the Washington Men's Chorus and the National Symphony Orchestra at Constitution Hall. Roger also starred as the character, Woof, in the Broadway road production of the smash musical, HAIR, at the National Theatre in Washington, DC. He cut his first single, Foolish Heart, on the Dore Record Label in Hollywood, CA in 1978 and for the last 20 years he has been featured as guest songwriter for regional coffeehouses and songwriter showcases.

Honors...

As well was appearing on many television and radio programs across the country, Roger was selected for the first edition of "Capital Acoustics," an album featuring the Washington area's best singer/songwriters, and he has been nominated twice for vocalist of the year WAMMY award by the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA). Roger has also placed in the finals of songwriting competitions such as the Billboard Song Contest, the American Song Festival, and the S.A.W. Songwriting Contest, a mid-atlantic contest.

Special Projects Past and Present...

Roger organized and produced "The Old Town Jam," bringing together the Washington area's best performers for an annual benefit show for terminally ill children and AIDS victims for six years. He co-organized and co-produced Washington's first songwriters' showcase called "Newsong," with radio personality and songwriter John Lyon and songwriter Pete Papageorge. Roger also participated in the WAMMY award winning album, "Friends off Dave Allen," a tribute to the late songwriter, Dave Allen.

Currently...

Roger is currently persuing a career as a songwriter, collaborating with fellow performer and songwriter, Pete Papageorge. He continues to perform at concerts, clubs, public events and private parties locally and throughout the east.
